Manufacturing process of TMT steel bar

TMT Bars, or Thermo-Mechanically Treated Bars, are steel bars produced using the thermomechanical process, which results in a hard outer core and a soft core while retaining bendability. They bond well with concrete and add strength to it. As a result, they are commonly used in the construction of reinforced concrete structures that are strong, long-lasting, and earthquake-resistant.

The quality of TMT steel is one of the most important factors determining a structure's strength and longevity. To decipher and determine the quality of TMT steel bars, and thus choose the best steel company for your construction, it is necessary to first understand the TMT steel bar manufacturing process. Here are the steps for manufacturing process of TMT steel bars:

  1. Quenching: Quenching is the first and most important step in the manufacturing process. When the hot-rolled bars are discharged from the finished factory, they enter the water splash framework known as the Thermax system. Thermax technology is used in the best quality TMT bars fabrication process to quickly cool down the external center and ensure the malleability of TMT rebars. Fast cooling solidifies the outer center of TMT rebars to a greater depth in each area. It forms a martensitic edge while keeping the core hot and austenitic. The quenching process of TMT Bars is the name given to this cooling innovation.

  2. Self-Tempering: Self tempering is the second stage in the TMT manufacturing process. The residual heat moves from the center to the outer layer at this stage, hardening the martensite layer and making the bar harder. This stage was named after the heat left in the core at the end of the procedure. When the rebars are removed from the thermex quenching box, the center remains hot in contrast to the surface, allowing heat to flow from the center to the surface, tempering the external Martensite layer and forming a structure known as tempered martensite.

  3. Annealing: The annealing stage is the final stage in the TMT rebar manufacturing process. In this annealing stage, the bars are currently at uniform temperature and are then left to cool generally despite all air to encompassing temperature. The residual austenite transforms into a refined, extreme, and ductile ferrite and pearlite core at this stage, determining the flexibility of the bars.
